Vietnam is more liberal at present so Australians who wish to visit and move to the country can apply directly at the Vietnam Embassy in Australia. Purposes of visits among individuals can vary from leisure, business, mass media, study and permanent residency. Foreigners should know and follow rules concerning temporary stays and immigration.

Australians may go to Vietnam with the help of visa and then after arrival apply for residence permit. It can be continually renewed every 6 months or when the employee has stayed in the country for a minimum of 6 months. Moreover, employees may also choose to apply for a Permit Card for Temporary Residence, which is usually issued for the duration of the Work Permit.

To obtain a Work Permit in Vietnam, applicants should satisfy the following requirements:
•    must be a specialist, executive or manager;
•    be at least 18 years old;
•    without any criminal record or a national security offence, not serving a criminal sentence during assignment or not currently facing criminal prosecution;
•   health in good condition to satisfy the specific demands and requirements of the job.
