Moving Regulations - Sweden
If you intend to remain in Sweden for more than 3 months, you should apply for a visa that is valid for a longer period of time or a residence permit. The mission abroad sends applications for a residence permit for the purpose of a visit to the Migration Board, which then makes a decision.

In order to work in Sweden it is obligatory to have an offer of employment from an employer in Sweden. Your employer must offer terms of employment equivalent to a Swedish collective agreement or customary terms for the occupation or industry and give the relevant union an opportunity to state an opinion on the terms of the offer of employment. As for you, you must have a valid passport and earn enough from employment to support yourself. Both you and your employer are responsible for showing the Migration Board that the requirements above have been met.

In the case if you have been resident in Sweden for at least 5 consecutive years, you have the right to apply for citizenship by naturalization. Naturalization means that a person by applying for Swedish nationality becomes a Swedish citizen. If you wish to become a Swedish citizen by naturalization, you must meet the following requirements:

• you must be able to prove your identity (your passport or ID must have been issued by a public authority in your native country, it must be of good quality and genuine; there must be a photo on the document and it must be clearly of you);
• you must have a permanent residence permit;
• you must be at least 18 years of age;
• you must been living in Sweden for at least five years, or for at least four years if you are stateless or a refugee;
• you must have a clean record in Sweden.

The Migration Board is the body that considers applications for Swedish citizenship and takes decisions. When you apply for Swedish citizenship, the Migration Board collects data about you from the enforcement service (debts), the Social Insurance Office (maintenance/alimony debts), the National Police Board (crimes or suspected offences) and the Swedish Security Service (security checks).
