Moving Regulations - Poland

If you plan to stay in Poland for long period of time to carry out business, to undertake employment, for scientific or cultural activity, for education, training, or teaching you need a national Polish Long-Stay Visa (Category D). It is valid only for Poland. It entitles to stay in Poland and it may be issued for single, double or multiple entries, with validity for up to 5 years. However, it is not a work permit. All applications should be lodged in person. Nevertheless, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney recognizes the inconvenience of requiring all applicants living in Australia to attend an interview with a Sydney-based Consul thus mailed applications are routinely accepted on the understanding that:

•  a signature on the application form must be notarized (certified) by a notary public or a Justice of the Peace;
•  the applicant covers the cost of postage and handling and accepts responsibility for the risk of loss of the passport;
•  telephone and personal interviews might still be necessary.

In order to obtain a visa the following documents in original must be submitted to the Consulate:
• valid and signed passport or travel document;
• 1 colour photograph;
• visa application form;
• proof of medical insurance;
• documents establishing the purpose of the applicant's moving according to the type of visa (a letter from a company, a letter of acceptance or admission from a receiving organization in Poland, a Promise of a Work Permit in Poland obtained for the applicant by his/her prospective employer or an employment contract etc.);
• proof of sufficient funds;
• a self-addressed prepaid envelope;
• confirmation of current employment or school/university enrolment;
• valid re-entry permit to Australia;
• visa-processing fee.

Note that all fees must be paid in advance in Australian dollars. They must be made in cash, by money order or bank cheque to the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney.

The decision on the time required to consider and process a visa application is made in each case by the Consul, depending on the nationality and Australian residency rights of the applicant, the completion of all the necessary documents and the season of the year and the type of the visa. Unfortunately, personal situation of the applicant cannot be taken into account.

In order to confirm a Polish citizenship the following documents are required:
• an application letter filled in Polish;
• valid Australian passport;
• declaration (in Polish) what other than Australian citizenship(s) the applicant holds (or held);
• a detailed autobiography in Polish;
• marriage certificate (if applicable; Australian document should be apostilled);
• marriage certificate of applicant's parents;
• birth certificate (Australian document should be apostilled);
• declaration (in Polish) whether the applicant, his/her parents or grandparents ever renounced Polish citizenship;
• any Polish documents (e.g. invalid Polish ID's of the applicant or his/her parents , etc.);
• certificate stating change of the first and/or last name(s) issued by respective authority (if applicable);
• consular fee payable by cash, bank cheque or money order in Australian dollars.
