Moving Regulations – Malaysia

Australians wishing to work and to live in Malaysia first of all must have an employment pass. Other passport holders intending to work in Malaysia will need to check the visa requirements before entering the country. An employer will apply to the Immigration Department for permission to employ on behalf of the potential employee. When permission is granted, the employee will be informed of the Department's approval. After that the person can move to Malaysia. The right to work in Malaysia is not a general right to work. It is limited to a particular job with a particular employer.

People entering Malaysia have to declare all their dutiable or prohibited goods. They are also required to open, unpack and repack their luggage to facilitate customs inspection. It is allowed to import some goods duty free if they are imported personally by the owner in his baggage. Portable goods and equipment are permitted to import duty-free if they are for private use only.
