Moving Regulations - Ecuador

It is relatively simple to get a visa to live as a resident in Ecuador. Please, pay attention to the following information and keep the requirements below in mind.
• All documents submitted for this process must be originals or notarized copies.
• Documents must be legally translated into Spanish.
• You must register your home address with immigration authorities and report any change of address while living in Ecuador.
• If you're changing visa status while in Ecuador (going from a tourist visa to a resident visa) the application and associated documents must be submitted no less than 30 days prior to the expiration of the visa that you currently have.

All applicators for resident visas require the following:
• A visa petition addressed to the Director General of Extranjería. It must be signed by the applicant and an attorney.
• 2 notarized copies of a current passport.
• 2 current passport size color photos with white backdrop.
• Visa fee.
• A completed form " Solicitud de visa de inmigrante" for the type of visa.
• A completed form " hoja de datos para la cédula" (a data sheet, later used for your identity card).

In addition to resident visa there are other visa types which allow people to reside in Ecuador permanently. Among them they are: Pensioner Visa, Investor of Real Estate or Securities Visa, Industrial Investor Visa, Legal Representative, Work Visa, or Religious Visa, Professional Visa, Economic Dependence Visa. According to each type of visa certain additional documents are required.

Foreigners with immigrant visa and foreigners with non-immigrant working visa are permitted to transport household goods and personal belongings duty free. Shipments for foreigners, immigrants and returning nationals must arrive within 60 days of the customer.
