Product certification, labelling and packaging

Special certificates
Livestock and animals require sanitary certificates issued by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS), Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry-Australia or the relevant state department of agriculture.

Grains and certain foodstuffs require health certificates.

No specific marking or labelling regulations but it is recommended. Outer containers should bear consignee's mark and port mark and should also be numbered according to packing list.

No specific packing requirements but goods should be securely packed to guard against rough handling and humid conditions.

Documentary requirements
The commercial invoice must give full description of goods and, where preference is claimed, details regarding origin and value must be completed. A combined certificate of value and origin is required if claiming preference.
