Import Regulations - Ecuador

Australia and Ecuador share modest and friendly trade relations. Opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties exist in the energy and mining . There may also be potential for Australian firms to invest in telecommunications services and equipment, port infrastructure and information technology (though many of it will depend on privatisation progress).

In Ecuador, the Customs Department values products, even if they are brought into the country by independent firms. Products are usually cleared through customs using visual inspections and each good has applicable tariffs. Ecuador is a member of GATT and is party to the Andean Pact, a regional free trade treaty. 

Import regulations: import licenses are only required in SOME cases. In general, there are no import quotas or barriers in Ecuador, but there are applicable import duties.

Manufacturing and packing requirements: there is small number of manufacturing requirements in Ecuador. For example, there are no regulations, which require a product to contain components or ingredients, which are found or manufactured only in Ecuador. Furthermore, there are no regulations, requiring the imported components or parts to be incorporated in a final product.  

There are general labeling and packing requirements, as well as special requirements for a number of products. Food labeling requirements are: name of the product; trade mark; name of the company; net weight; health registration number; expiration date; ingredients list; price; country of production; and production lot number.
